Tomas Iglesias

Tomas Iglesias is a piano teacher, music director, and composer. He is the director of the School of Musical Arts in Browns Bay, North Shore Auckland, where he teaches piano to over 30 students. From 2025, he also serves as Music Director at Auckland Normal Intermediate School, conducting the orchestra, chamber music ensembles, jazz band, and choir.

His musical training includes a Bachelor of Music in Composition from the University of Auckland, with advanced studies in harmony, counterpoint, fugue, orchestration, piano, and continuo.

As a composer, arranger, and orchestrator, Tomas has written music for more than 30 projects including short films, documentaries, video games, and in-flight Air New Zealand music videos.

Tomas is also on of the founders of Piano Tree, a sight-reading piano app built around a library of over 5,000 original and adapted pieces, each with a full orchestral backing track. The app is designed to help students develop strong sight-reading skills, rhythmic stability, ensemble awareness, and genuine musical confidence.

He has created an in-depth online course covering Classical Harmony, Counterpoint, Improvisation, Partimento, Composition, and Figured Bass, available through his platform The Practice of Harmony.

He has also co-authored books on Tango and Jazz Piano Arranging, available at Tango Piano Secrets.
